Customer Challenge:

Replacement of damaged concrete sleepers in plain line by a Middle Eastern client.  The freight track had suffered from regular sand clogging of the ballast, resulting in a stiffening of the ballast sub-base and transferring of considerably stresses onto the concrete sleepers, which had begun to regularly fail.  The sleepers are installed in a desert location where temperatures regularly exceed +45°C.

Sicut Solution:

Following analysis of its predicted strain to failure performance, Sicut Composite Sleepers with dimensions 152mm x 254mm x 2600mm were selected for this project. The isolated location of the track and lack of high output track laying equipment for the project also meant that sleepers had to be pre-plated before delivery to site.  Since the installation in 2018, performance of Sicut sleepers have been positive.
