Customer Challenge:

Replacement of two hardwood timber turnouts with Sicut composite bearers; client specified local contractor used for prefabrication. Trams with 12t axle load, and speeds up to 60 km/h drive over the turnouts on a daily basis every 10 to 20 minutes. Welding and heating the rail is expected to be no different to procedures used when working with wood sleepers and bearers.

Sicut Solution:

Mixture of Sicut composite bearers with dimensions 152mm x 304mm and 152mm x 254mm were used to replace the damaged and degraded timber hardwood bearers.  Since installation in 2017, track data has confirmed gauge has remained within permitted tolerance.
